My Encounter with the Self-Employed IT guy.

So I walked into JB Hi-Fi and took a stroll around in search of the iPads, just to have a fiddle.  Upon finding myself totally immersed in just how awesome it was, my concentration soon breaks with the discreet figure I could see standing in the left corner of my eye. I continued to experiment with its many features and soon enough I hear laughter from the now revealed indian man standing next to me, watching as I play with the iPad.

He seemed to also be intrigued by its sheer awesomeness and polished OS. He then began to ask whether I knew if it could be connected to the internet and how, or how it would be enabled to be able to connect to printers. I felt like I was being tested but at the same time I felt like the JB Hi Fi salesman that never was, as I splurged out whatever it is I knew about iPads and connectivity.  He then asks what I was studying, I guess he was amazed at my, if brief, knowledge of things as I was also getting a mutual vibe that this guy knew his shit.

TPG Level 1 IT support hard at work.  I think I spot Raj…

He guessed science, but I shook my head and said IT, to which he then proclaimed that I was his “kind of man”. At that point I thought he was going to offer me a job! Hahahahah. he told me how long I’d been studying and my response of 4 years seemed to surprise him as somewhat of a very long time. He tells me he does contractual work for himself (?) and used to work for CBA. I said I work at the tax office and said public service jobs are always good pay.  Following that up, he claimed there was a lot of opportunity at Canberra, if I was willing to relocate. I said no, to put it simply.

This convo went on for about another 5 enduring minutes, which I actually enjoyed because to just have a chat with a random stranger is somewhat healthy. He wished me well in my endeavours, I thanked him, then proceeded to walk off - realising I still wasn’t done looking at the iPad, but didn’t want to go back. I left the store to tweet about it and now here I am blogging about it. Like skrillex, morale boosted and all in a days work. lolol.

That’s wassup.
